The Kowari is a native Australian mammal with large upright ears, a light-grey coat and a distinctive black brush on the end of its tail. It is a small but ferocious nocturnal predator feeding on small mammals, reptiles, invertebrates, rodents, birds and their eggs. The Kowari population is very scarce and are only found in a small pocket in central Australia. They are classified vulnerable with under 10,000 remaining in the wild. Destruction of habitat by live stock and apex predators like feral cats and foxes are the primary threats to the Kowari population.Â
